Happy Birthday, Grandma Call!

Grandma Annie Call was born 118 years ago today in the "Swedetown" of Salt Lake City. She was the nineth of ten children born to August Alfred and Eliza Maria Nilsson, immigrants from Sweden. We don't know much about her childhood; five of her brothers and sisters died before she was born, her mother died when she was 3 1/2, then she was left an orphan at nine years of age when her father passed away. Three of her brothers also disappeared and nothing was ever known of them again. (Wow! What a childhood!)

Everyone I have met that ever knew her said she was an absolute angel. Even Aunt LaVene said that a person should think of her own mother as being the best example, but that her mother-in-law Annie was the best person she ever knew.

Grandma Call said she wanted to live long enough to see all her children grown up, she didn't want any of them to be motherless. She passed away in 1943 when Dad was 22 years old.

She has six children, 24 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren, over 165 great-great-grandchildren and at least 5 great-great-great-grandchildren.

I know so little about Grandma Annie. This really touched me, Glenn. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness in keeping our family connected through the generations. Love, Jane
